Unlike in the past, Cameroonians can create YouTube Channels and Make Money from their channels.

In this article, we bring to you an inspirational story which reveals how a Cameroon based YouTuber successfully monetized 2 YouTube Channels and has been making money from the YouTube Channels for more than a year.

Below is a statement from the YouTuber...

Starting and monetizing a YouTube channel in Cameroon is entirely possible, even with limited resources. This guide shares the journey of running two YouTube channels, successfully monetizing them, and receiving consistent monthly payments from YouTube. It also explains how aspiring creators in Cameroon can start their channels and accelerate monetization.

My YouTube Journey in Cameroon

I currently run two YouTube channels. My first channel has been active for six to seven years, while the second one is approaching its third year. Both channels are monetized and consistently generate revenue. The journey began after completing university, getting married, and becoming a stay-at-home mom.

Without a traditional 9-to-5 job, I wanted to explore ways to earn income and develop practical skills. Learning hair styling was a natural first step. I discovered that YouTube was an incredible platform for learning everything from crochet braids to wig-making. Watching these tutorials sparked the desire to not only consume content but also create my own.

While exploring cooking videos to replicate my mother’s traditional dishes, I discovered Cameroonian YouTubers like Funen Dolly and Kenna K. Observing their content inspired me to start my own channel. Remarkably, I launched my first YouTube channel just two weeks after giving birth to my daughter in September 2018.

Evolution of My Channels

My first channel began as JD Speaks, focused on sharing opinions and ideas. Over time, the channel evolved into Jud’s Journey, and later Journey with Judi, reflecting a mix of vlogs and personal insights. Today, it focuses primarily on sit-down videos about marriage and relationships, including a popular series called The Godly Wife Diaries.

The second channel benefited from the lessons I learned from my first. By applying this knowledge, I was able to achieve faster growth and monetization. Within roughly a year, this second channel was approved for monetization, and ads were running shortly after.

How to Start a YouTube Channel in Cameroon

Whether you already have a channel or are considering starting one in 2025, there are essential steps and strategies to ensure success:

1. Understand Your Niche

One of the most common mistakes Cameroonian YouTubers make is not clearly defining their niche. Choosing the right niche is crucial for growth and monetization. Successful channels focus on consistent content that caters to a specific audience, whether it’s cooking, lifestyle, education, or entertainment.

2. Learn Basic Editing

While you don’t need to be a professional editor, understanding basic video editing is essential. Free software like DaVinci Resolve, iMovie, or Shotcut can help you produce polished videos that engage viewers.

3. Build Consistency

Your channel’s growth depends heavily on regular uploads. Set a schedule that is realistic for you and stick to it. Even one high-quality video per week can build momentum over time.

4. Overcome Local Challenges

As a Cameroonian creator, you might face challenges like limited internet speed, lack of mentorship, or difficulty understanding monetization policies. Awareness of these challenges and proactive solutions can help you stay ahead.

5. Apply for Monetization

Once your channel meets YouTube’s requirements (1,000 subscribers and 4,000 watch hours), you can apply for monetization. Ads will start running on your videos, providing your first revenue stream.

Learning and Growth Through Experience

The lessons learned from my first channel were instrumental in the rapid success of my second. I was able to identify effective strategies, avoid past mistakes, and optimize content for faster monetization.

Free and Paid YouTube Classes

To help aspiring Cameroonian YouTubers, a free WhatsApp class is offered to cover:

  • How to start a YouTube channel

  • Challenges Cameroonian creators face

  • Editing basics

  • Tips to boost confidence and content quality

For those interested in more advanced strategies, a paid class dives deeper into monetization, niche selection, and growth tactics. Joining the free class first provides a foundation and preview of the paid content.

Cooking and Creating Content

Content creation can blend seamlessly with daily life. While cooking rice and granulated soup, I realized how relatable lifestyle content can attract viewers. Sharing authentic experiences, whether cooking, parenting, or personal routines, helps create a connection with your audience.

Ingredients like fresh tomatoes, fish, onions, green spices, and a small amount of blended crayfish can elevate your cooking videos. Even simple details, like the right amount of seasoning, can make your content more engaging and authentic.

Why You Should Start Your YouTube Channel in 2025

YouTube offers not just income but opportunities for personal growth, skill development, and global reach. Mentorship, consistency, and understanding the platform’s mechanics are key to building a sustainable channel.

Whether it’s a free introductory class or a paid in-depth course, learning from someone who has navigated the challenges of Cameroonian YouTube channels can save time, reduce mistakes, and accelerate success.
