Why we should give Musonge and his Commission a chance (READ THE OBJECTIVES OF THE COMMISSION)

In an interview with Cameroon Tribune on newsstands Thursday, January 11, 2018, the head of the National Commission for the Promotion of Bilingualism and Multiculturalism; Peter Mafany Musonge, revealed the promising plans of action of his commission for the year 2018.

These are the promising plan of action...(which has already been approved last year by the Head of State; president Biya)

  • The National Commission for the Promotion of Bilingualism and Multiculturalism will dwell on the state of play of living together in Cameroon. The commission will begin with a literature search, an inventory of the texts governing living together, their review and finally, the establishment of a legal framework conducive to living together ".
  • Musonge's commission will carry out a listening mission in the ten regions of the national territory to reinforce the will and the daily practice of the living-together. To accomplish that the commission will hold meetings with members of civil society, and vulnerable groups like women and children.

It should be noted that the 23rd of January 2018 will mark 1 year since the National Commission of Bilingualism and Multiculturalism was set up by president Biya and no significant progress has been made by the commission. This is because in 2017 the commission was busy drawing feasible plan of actions and also creating a fertile ground necessary for a successful execution of their plans of actions.

For example, in 2017 the National Commission for the Promotion of Bilingualism and Multiculturalism made courtesy and work visits to the main bodies of the State like the Senate, National House of Assembly, the judiciary etc to re-educate them about the objectives of the commission and also to solicit their support to ensure the sound application of the constitutional provisions on the promotion of bilingualism.

Peter Mafany clearly said (during his interview with Cameroon tribune) that 2018 will be a decisive year in the existence of the Commission. In other words, 2018 will determine if the commission will be dissolved or not i.e. after an assessment of the effectiveness of their plans of action. The fate of the commission will be determine in December,2018; which is the deadline set for the execution of their objectives (plan of actions).

In my opinion, we should give the commission a chance to proof itself.
